Quick-Unpick is an exhibition of artwork influenced by sewing, textile patterns, knitting and embroidery. Curated by Kath Fries, each artist’s contribution is distinctive. Megan Yeo’s ‘Queen Crown’ features a young Queen Elizabeth and Shannon Johnson’s ‘Path of No Return’ also considers political issues. Sophia Egarchos’s work vibrates with patterns and saturated colour, whereas Virginia Mawer’s delicate embroidery on paper is enticingly tactile. Linden Braye’s playful toys are almost sinister, leaving you to wonder if they are friend or foe? The haunting beauty of Kath Fries’ ‘Burning Out’ series lingers in your memory. All the works feature aspects of traditional craftsmanship skills subverted into new and unusual art objects, wall hangings and installations.
